The Role of the Board

The role of school board is one of setting the long term future for the school and maintaining oversight (not management) of the school's operation. It is not about running the school – that is the job of the principal. It is about providing additional expertise to help the school achieve the best outcomes for the students.

What is the Commitment?

The Board meets for 1-hour meetings monthly (at a time that works best for the members of the Board) and meetings may be in-person or online. Other special meetings may be called in addition to this on an as-needs basis. Each board member is required to complete 4 hours of board training per year and do additional reading in between and prior to meetings (i.e. emails, financial reports, policies, plans).

How many people are on the Board?

There are seven positions on the Board: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and three standard Board Member positions.
